{"id":531,"date":"2011-08-17T00:18:20","date_gmt":"2011-08-17T04:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.miblaw.com\/lawschool\/?p=531"},"modified":"2011-08-17T00:15:20","modified_gmt":"2011-08-17T04:15:20","slug":"article-3-constitution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.miblaw.com\/lawschool\/article-3-constitution\/","title":{"rendered":"Article 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>Section 1\r\nThe judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court,\r\nand in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and\r\nestablish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold\r\ntheir Offices during good Behavior, and shall, at stated Times, receive for\r\ntheir Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their\r\nContinuance in Office.\r\n\r\nSection 2\r\nThe judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under\r\nthis Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and Treaties made, or which\r\nshall be made, under their Authority; to all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other\r\npublic Ministers and Consuls; to all Cases of admiralty and maritime\r\nJurisdiction; to Controversies to which the United States shall be a Party; to\r\nControversies between two or more States; between a State and Citizens of\r\nanother State; between Citizens of different States; between Citizens of the\r\nsame State claiming Lands under Grants of different States, and between a\r\nState, or the Citizens thereof, and foreign States, Citizens or Subjects.\r\n\r\nIn all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and\r\nthose in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original\r\nJurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall\r\nhave appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and\r\nunder such Regulations as the Congress shall make.\r\n\r\nThe Trial of all Crimes, except in Cases of Impeachment, shall be by Jury; and\r\nsuch Trial shall be held in the State where the said Crimes shall have been\r\ncommitted; but when not committed within any State, the Trial shall be at such\r\nPlace or Places as the Congress may by Law have directed.\r\n\r\nSection 3\r\nTreason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against\r\nthem, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person\r\nshall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the\r\nsame overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.\r\n\r\nThe Congress shall have power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no\r\nAttainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except\r\nduring the Life of the Person attainted.<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Section 1 The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish.
